1. Read in Kansas Common Core Math Standards document-attached- pages 1-5, 9-11 and review one grade level. Share 3 things you learned when reading pages 1-5 and 9-11. What are two questions you have after reading these sections? Choose one of the grade levels and carefully review the domains, clusters, and standards. Tell what grade level and then respond to: What were your aha moments, were you surprised by anything, what do you wonder about in that grade level?
2. After reviewing the NCTM Process Standards (text p. 82), the 8 Mathematical Practices (included in CCSS), and the 16 Habits of Mind (see in Course Documents)-consider and share the connections between the 3. What commonalities and connections do you see and why and how can this be helpful to elementary math educators?

3. Go to the NCTM website- http://illuminations.nctm.org/ (you may be able to copy/paste or you can just type in illuminations.nctm) and select Interactives. Next select either k-2 or 3-5 and explore at least one of the ready to use, online, interactive, multimedia math activities. Tell what activity you selected and how you could use it with students.
4. One way to catergorize questions is to describe them as open(require more deep thinking, response involves more than recalling a fact or reproducing a skill, there may be more than one correct response) or closed(simply require an answer or response from memory, such as a description or the reproduction of a skill). To emphasize problem solving, application, and the development of a variety of thinking skills it is vital to pay attention to improving our questioning in math lessons. Consider the following math questions. Tell which are open questions and which are closed questions and why you believe they are open or closed.

If there are four chairs at the table, how many legs are there altogether?
I counted something in the room. There were exactly four. What might I have counted?
I have $36.00 in my wallet. What bills might I have?
I have $36.00 in my wallet. Do I have enough money to by 3 large pizzas at $10 each? Do I have enough to by 4 large pizzas?
