RESPOND TO STUDENT POST IN 50 WORDS
Rosmery post what role do you play
Values varied between home and school, as teachers we expect children to learn some things at home and just the same way parents expect us to teach these values and manners at school. At the end of the day what matters is that this children are 90% of their day either at school or in daycare and they are learning the most from us. I feel as if students learn their values and culture from home but manners and education from school. Children learn through observation and practice and they are our first admires from the minute we walk through the door until we exit our classroom. As teachers we play an important rule in the development of children and who they will become as adults. Its from how we greet them in the morning to how we teach them to solve problems throughout the day that will give our students the tools to become a better person tomorrow.

I feel that a child experiences values in many ways in both school and home. We are taught from a young age by the people around us what we need to believe in or what to think and they change over time. Our parents teach us some things like having respect for others. Teachers however teach our children that and more. A lot of the times teachers help children learn to not pick on others or bully others, to always leave a place better than you left it, and others. Do you think there are other things that teachers can teach children?

I agree with the class that values differ somewhat at home versus school. I also believe it is similar to life for an adult between home and work. No matter where we are, adapting to the environment and what is expected from us is something we learn at a young age. Looking back I learned this at both home and school. Like most everyone has discussed the matter that is mostly learned is how to treat others fairly. Rosemary pointed out that students are either at school or daycare for 90% of their time. That means we are most responsible for teaching them how to conduct themselves around others and how to address different situations. At home students learn cultural and religious belief that impact how they react and believe what is ethically and valuable within a situation.

A teacher plays a large role in a child’s life and the values they adopt. At home, mom and dad help a child to develop their values of family, friends, health, hygiene, and the traits they want to have and appreciate in others. At school, the teacher helps the student to learn to value an education. They help them to value learning and what you can do with that knowledge. They can also help a child to value hard work. Both at home, and in school, a child can learn to value relationships, what is good and bad, what is right and wrong, and the value of friendship. As a teacher, you are helping the student to grow and progress academically, socially, and emotionally and as they do so their values will grow as well.
