OVERVIEW:  Any fast food restaurant in America is bound to have multiple teens working behind the counter.  As Eric Schlosser observes, “Teenagers open the fast food outlets in the morning, close them at night, and keep them going at all hours in between” (68).  Undoubtedly, there are multiple benefits to teens holding part-time jobs.  But, whether teens should be employed at fast food establishments has become a debatable topic because of the nature of the work.  TOPIC:  You are to develop a 3 pg. (4 pgs. max) argumentation-persuasion essay in which you take a stand on the following issue:   Take a position on whether or not it is a good idea for teens to work at McDonald’s (or any fast-food restaurant in general).  Make sure you have a very direct and clear thesis statement (one sentence in length) that lets the reader know exactly where you stand.  Also, make sure your reasons (which will comprise the body of the essay) support your thesis.  Do not forget to include appropriate counter arguments and rebuttals, quotes and data that support your thesis, and enough evidence and details within your paragraphs to support the topic sentences.  And be wary of fallacious reasoning!  KEY:  Make sure your stance on this issue is clear and consistent.  Also, your essay can discuss other chains that make up the fast food industry; you do not have to limit your topic to teens who work for McDonald’s.  REQUIREMENTS:  3 PAGE MINIMUM. Your essay will be directed toward an audience of college students.  This essay must be written in the objective (third person–DO NOT USE “I“) point of view and must follow MLA guidelines.  Failure to meet the requirements will result in penalties. Also, failure to address the specific writing topic topics will result in a “No Credit.”  SOURCE REQUIREMENT:  You are required to use at least two outside sources (books or journal articles, or websites, as long as they are appropriate) which you will document on a “Works Cited” page.  Please refer to your MLA guidebook to see how to properly set up and use a quote within the body of your paper.  Also, check to see how to set up a Works Cited Page.  **Essay #2 Assignment (Should Teens…) Due Date—11/13 by 5pm**
