For this week, read Chapter 1 in your text, and then reflect on early care and education programs and program administration. Reflect on what you have learned about the importance of the early years and the various types and quality of early childhood programs that are available.  Reflect also on the director’s role in the development and implementation of these programs.

For this assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation to share with families new to your community, explaining local early childhood programs and their administration:

Explore early childhood program models within your community or in a neighboring community.

Report on three different types of program models by describing the major characteristics of each type of program. Be sure to include three of the following models in your presentation:

• Public and private kindergartens, preschools, and child development programs
• Early Head Start, Head Start, and Even Start
• Private for-profit early childhood centers
• Faith-based early childhood centers
• Laboratory schools
• Corporate sponsored child care
• Family child care
• Programs meeting children’s special needs (i.e., developmental delays, homelessness, at-risk for abuse or neglect)

Within your presentation, be sure to address the following:

• Describe the theory and/or curriculum used in the program.
• Discuss characteristics of quality early care and education common to each type of program presented.
• Identify differences among the programs presented.
• Explore ways in which the role of the director would be similar to each program.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included. 

Length: 8-10 slides (with a separate reference slide)

Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide

Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
