Access to High-Quality Programs

Children’s access to high quality programs in the United States is influenced by the state in which they live. 

1. For this discussion, you will visit the Children’s Defense Fund website and access the Children in the States Factsheet (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for MY state and another state of your choosing. 

2. Review the fact sheet for MY state(ALABAMA) and another state of your choosing.  

3. Find data for the following:

a. Number of children in poverty.

b. One fact pertaining to Child Health.

c. One fact pertaining to Early Childhood Education 

d. One interesting statistic that you gained from the data.

4. You will then create a graphic representation (e.g., chart, table, or graph) that clearly shows the differences in these statistics between MY state and the other state you chose. 

5. You are encouraged to use “chart,” “table,” or “smart art” features in Word to create your graphic. 

6. An example is included in the attached file

7 After uploading your graphic into a word document, address the following:

o Analyze your findings and determine if the children in your state are receiving appropriate childcare services relative to the children in the other state. Justify your analysis by providing a comparison between the funding, percentage of students served, and percentage of identified poor children based on the data for the two states.

o Provide two to three specific recommendations for families to access quality childcare in your community. Also, locate two organizations that can aid families in identifying quality care.
