An accurate and well thought out explanation of criminal investigation is given in our text it states consists of two parts ; one, the utilization by police officers of all available knowledge and information concerning the psychology, motivation, and character of the criminal before, during and after the commission of a crime; and two, the application of all useful technological and scientific information to solve a crime and support the allegations in the courtroom (Osterburg, J. W & Ward, H. R., 2014).
Thus, to me criminal investigation means any type of crime an officer or detective would handle (from a break in to a murder) that has to be followed by evidence and leads to rebuild an event that has already happened. Criminal investigations are important because they “gather the facts whether it is direct evidence such as DNA or circumstantial evidence shoe prints eyewitnesses, etc. (this type usually is more abundant then direct)” (Wallace, W. J., 2013). Both can help prove or disprove someone’s innocence whether combined together or only have one or the other. The Bible is full of passages that use the practice of criminal investigation actually the Bible itself could be viewed through the same format that criminal investigations use for cases, it holds eyewitness testimonies (such as the Gospels) and evidence that is not disputed (such as the great flood). However, a great verse to back up how important evidence and investigations is “Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself” (Job 5:27, NIV). The Bible wants us to practice investigation in every aspect of our lives so to not live blindly. This passage shows me that investigation is the study of the past that will have a direct effect on the future, to truly understand something it must be thought about, combed over like a fine-tooth comb and worked over so that all the evidence and doubt can be replaced with grounded evidence (and yes, I believe that this can be done with the Bible).

To me a criminal investigation is a way to convict and punish people that are breaking the law. A criminal investigation is something that will deter others from hopefully doing the same thing. Criminal investigations also help to break apart gangs and other types of criminal groups (FBI Criminal Investigation). These investigations are important because they help to create a safe environment for citizens. They try to keep criminals off the street and organizations from planning terror attacks and other types of attacks (ACLU). Criminal investigations have to be taken serious, they are what drives the criminal justice system and what allows citizens to feel safe and continue to live their life. They serve a purpose not only for getting criminals off the street and administering justice, but for also working with the public and giving them security in the system itself (ACLU). Romans 13:1-7 is a great verse that discuss criminal justice. It states “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but too bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore, one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. …” I picked this verse because it really hits me that we are just servants for God. All the officers and people that are protecting justice are doing it for God.
