The impetus for change may come from internal (e.g., political pressure within a criminal justice organization) or external (e.g., increased unemployment rates within a city) forces and for a variety of reasons. Perhaps a new head of an organization such as a warden or commissioner observes a need for internal change from within the organization. Alternatively, new legislation might be the external force behind changes in criminal justice organizations Organizational change may impact only one or many divisions of an organization. Developing a process for organizational change and adopting a set plan to implement it are key elements in executing successful organizational change.
