Week 3 Discussion 1 Multiple Intelligences

  
The idea of Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences suggests that there are specific intelligences that are inherent in all individuals. The author, however, suggests that a preferred style may not necessarily be the best way an individual learns. With that in mind, what relevance do you see using the intelligences in your classroom in light of the fact that an individual’s preferred intelligence may not be the best way for them to take in and master new information?  Outside of the classroom, what purpose do the intelligences serve in the way you interact with people at work or with friends?

§ This chapter explores the importance of developing effective learning objectives, examines the theoretical model called Bloom’s Taxonomy, and introduces three types of planning that teachers need to use in order to cover the range of topics and information over the school year.
· Chapter 8: Differentiating Teaching and Learning for Your Diverse Learners
§ This chapter introduces the theory of multiple intelligences and how teachers can use this theory to impact their work in the classroom, along with how students can utilize their learning preferences to be successful. It also examines the idea of differentiated instruction and how teachers can use this concept to strategically focus lessons to meet students’ interests, learning styles, and readiness for learning.
