Research is the backbone of many organizational decisions. Research assists administrators in the public sector with implementing new programs, determining whether or not a program or decision was successful, and assisting in the improvement and development of the organization itself. I have seen research used in a variety of different ways, with one of the most effective of those being the information provided to an organization regarding their programs. For example, I am currently employed at the YMCA and many of the programs and initiatives that they put in place for the community go through many different phases of development. Individuals within the organization research how to implement these programs, which programs will be most successful, when to put them in place, and whether or not the programs are meeting goals and standards of both the organization and its stakeholders. Research is an asset to those in the public sector and can provide a foundation for any changes being made.
