Introduction and a clear explanation of the main points of the topic you will be discussing in the paperYour supporting information (100 points):1. The essay should address an issue that affects law enforcement community2. Select any issue that you believe is important or examine a specific element of a law enforcement organization. For example, you may choose the issue of the use of less-than-lethal weapons. In that essay you might describe the types of less-than-lethal-weapons, pros and cons about the weapons, and what dilemma or issue the use of these weapons presents for law enforcement. Instead, you may choose a particular unit such as SWAT. In that essay you might give history of the creation of this type of unit, the activities, the cost, the legal issues, any organizations issues related to this type of unit, etc.3. Some issues, if appropriate, that should be addressed are: Reasons for the unit/program History of the unit/program Successes/failures of the unit/program Legal issues or constraints Organizational concerns Pros and cons about the unit/program Costs versus benefits How the program or unit affects the mission of law enforcement Any other dilemmas created that may affect law enforcementConclusion (40 points):A conclusion section that reiterates your key points andprovides your observations or conclusions based upon the information provided in the body of the essay.Writing Mechanics (40 points): Title page Bibliography Citation of at least 5 sources in addition to the textbook Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Proper length Paper format APA Style Total Possible: 200 pointsYou may section the paper however you choose, but a good standard format would be to use three sections with the headings of Introduction, Discussion, and Conclusion/Recommendation. Using another format will notaffect your grade but using the three recommended sections will help ensure you touch the major categories of the grading rubric.
