Part 1:
I believe Andrew Jackson at first was a President for the people. It wasn’t until he came into office when he started to abuse his power, starting with the veto of a road project that would benefit the southern people that voted him into office. He was voted into office because he was standing up for the poorer south. The south was worried about the possibly corrupt second national bank. They voted Jackson into office who did hold true that he would abolish the power of the banks. In the end, it tried his hardest to fight for the poorer people, but in turn, ruined the relationships with the Native Americans by giving the farmers that voted Jackson into office the Native Americans land. Also, since he practically destroyed the big banks, the rich called upon the payment of loans that in turn put the nation into an economic crisis.
Part 2:
The Nullification crisis was a backlash from the southern states against a federal law formed in 1928 supporting tariff goods. The largest crop brought into question was cotton. In 1818, cotton dropped from 31 cents per pound to just eight cents per pound by 1831. With the price of cotton declining and the increased prices of other goods, the southern states began to revolt. The federal government stated that the reason for the tariffs laws was meant to decrease the use of slaves. All of the southern states backed out of the revolt except for South Carolina. South Carolina threatened war if the tariffs did not stop. It wasn’t until President Jackson stepped in and decreased the tariffs drastically that peace resumed.
