 Basic Instructions for Assignment #1 – Argumentative Essay OutlineBasic Instructions for Assignment #1 – Argumentative Essay Outline Assignment # 1 – Argumentative Essay Outline (30% of Final Grade) No longer than 3 pages Assignment Due Date: 12/6/20 (Submit through Blackboard) You will create a detailed argumentive essay OUTLINE which critically engages a contemporary moral issue. Your outline MUST FOLLOW the “Classical Argument Structure” (see attached information)! You will take a position on your chosen issue and defend it taking into account potential counter arguments to your primary thesis. Ultimately, this outline will be the culmination of all of the skills you acquired through the materials and your collaboration with students in the class. Your Outline will require at least 3 solid (well researched) premises (“confirmatio”) & a strong conclusion (“peroratio”). It will also require at least one reasonable “concession” & at least one solid refute of another person/article’s counter-conclusion (“refutatio”). Don’t forget you must also include Intro, background, & conclusion portions on your outline! Your topic can range from complex to simple; the only requirement is that you make the strongest argument possible & have the facts/logic to back up your premises & conclusion. Opinions based on bias, stereotypes, or generalizations are strongly discouraged. Outlines depending on opinion-only reasoning, or heavily-biased sources, will result in point deductions. Please cite all external sources, identifying the use of a source in both the outline, as well as in a “Works Cited” or “References” page. The Works Cited/References page is EXCLUDED from the 3 page requirement.
