 “Keeping a promise is morally important because it allows the person to fully trust the person fulfilling the promise if the promise is kept. If one keeps a promise, it shows one’s true moral character. Promise-keepers are liable, honest, and trustworthy. Relationships are often much stronger when promise-keeping is involved. It is evident that most people try to avoid having relations or business with untrustworthy promise breakers. They are uncertain of whether the promise breakers are telling the full truth and will often have to investigate by asking questions in order to decide if they can trust the promise breaker. The Bible says in Numbers 30:2, “If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth”. 73 As a Christian, that Bible verse gives enough reason to understand the moral importance of a person keeping a promise. It is important to fully understand the promise that is being made before actually accepting the promise.
