Assignment 3: Prospectus Project Task I

In each module, you will perform tasks to evaluate a variety of designs and statistical analyses as possible approaches for your final prospectus.
In this module, provide a one- to two-page paper with the following information in Microsoft Word:

Give a brief summary of the research topic, including a statement of the underlying problem, key background information/theory/findings, and the specific goals of your research. What is/are your hypothesis(es) for your study?
Considering the way you have expressed your research question, analyze it to see if it focuses on the degree of relationship or prediction, group differences, group membership, or structure. Then, describe how you might apply one multivariate approach to your research question. What variables might you include?

Present your paper in Microsoft Word. Name the file R7034_M1_A3_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit it to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.
Through the end of the module, read the description of the research question and the multivariate approaches described by one of your classmates, as assigned by your facilitator. Suggest another approach to address the general research question offered by that classmate.
In addition, use the Discussion Area to ask for help in completing the tasks from your classmates and the facilitator; likewise, offer your suggestions to those asking for help. Participating in this community of scholars will help you clarify processes, solve problems, and gain the immediate reinforcement you need to quickly solidify gains that you’re making in working with multiple variables and advanced statistics.
Example: A student may present the research question as, ”What predicts successful treatment of adolescent depression?” In addition, the student may plan to use a group difference approach with treatment condition and severity of depression as the two categorical IVs and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) score and Global Assessment Functioning (GAF) score as DVs. However, alternative approaches may be considered to study these relationships, such as:

Predicting membership in the successful outcomes versus unsuccessful outcome groups, such as with logistic regression or discriminant analysis.
Or predicting the BDI score using a multiple regression approach, which could include treatment, severity of depression, and other variables as predictors.
