You are a deus ex machina, or in this case someone who is dropped in from the outside to choose a leader to insure that a group is functioning and performing well.
An eight person team of product designers at Apple have been selected to fix a flaw in the new Apple watch. The flaw is that people with tatoos on their arm are not able to receive haptic notification feedback from their watches. All the team members have worked together on the Apple watch for five years, but their product leader has left them to take a job with Pebble. Although they can’t fix this issue for watches currently on the market, they have been told to correct the issue for its next iteration.
You are charged with hiring a leader from outside the group to lead the the group and the fix. Why did you select this leader? What leadership style would he or she exhibit? Why is this style appropriate for this group? What style would not be appropriate? Finally, how would you evaluate team membership qualifications to align with this leadership style?
