Q1.
The only question that I have about annotated bibliographies are what is the best way to gather the pertinent information to form an annotated bibliography?
Helpful hint: I have used the abstracts of articles and book to get a quick synopsis of the material and then scanned all the related areas without having to read the book or publication in its entirety to build my bibliography.
The following are two examples from an annotated bibliography about sex trafficking:
Clayton, E., Krugman, R., & Simon, P. (2013). Confronting commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States. Washington, District of Columbia: The National Academies Press.
In this book Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States the authors examine commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of United States citizens and legal permanent residents of the U.S. under the age of 18. This book also discusses the fact that efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes require better multiparty approaches that build upon the capabilities of people and entities from a range of sectors.
The authors propose an increased awareness and understanding, strengthening of legal response, enhancement of research to advance comprehension and to support the development of prevention and intervention strategies, support for multi-sector and interagency collaboration, and creation of a digital information-sharing platform. They point out that ignorance of these problems associated with sex trafficking or a disengaged attitude about solutions only contribute to the ongoing abuse of minors. If acted upon in a coordinated and knowledgeable manner, the recommendations of this literature can help advance and strengthen the nation’s emerging efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States.
Territo, L., & Glover, N. (2014). Criminal investigation of sex trafficking in America. Boca Raton: CRC Press.
This book covers various aspects of  sex trafficking and delineates the differences between the larger context of “human trafficking,” which includes not only sex trafficking but forced labor, involuntary servitude, peonage, and the illegal trafficking of human organs and body parts. The main focus of this book, however is on the criminal investigation of sex trafficking because it is to this facet of human trafficking that local law enforcement agencies tend to direct the vast majority of their investigative personnel resources, and time.
Although comprehensive research to document the number of children engaged in prostitution in the United States is lacking, it is estimated that 293,000 American youths currently are at risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation. The majority of these victims are runaway or throw-away youths who live on the streets and become victims of prostitution. These children generally come from homes where they have been abused or are from families that have abandoned them. Often, they become involved in prostitution.
This book suggests the need for local law enforcement officers to redefine the way they have traditionally viewed sex crimes, especially those involving young girls engaged in prostitution and also assist them in identifying the differences between commercial and noncommercial forms of sex trafficking. It also discusses the distinctions between trafficking and smuggling and how smuggling can easily morph into trafficking, the major contributing factors to the sex trade, why it is such a lucrative business, and why the supply of victims is seemingly endless.

Q2.
I have completed a couple of annotated bibliography’s before, each better than the last, but I still have a long way to go. I find it difficult sometimes to do this without first writing a little of the research paper I am doing. I think by writing the first little bit of a research paper you get a better idea of what it is you are trying to convey.

What little things do you do to put you in the right frame of mind to complete an annotated bibliography.
How do you double check your computer generated APA cites.

Gibbs, B., Lytle, R., & Wakefield, W. (2019). Outcome Effects on Recidivism Among Drug Court Participants. Criminal Justice and Behavior, 46(1), 115–135. https://doi.org/10.1177/0093854818800528
This article weighs the pros and cons of the effects drug court has had on the court participants. Drug court is a newer type of sentencing and as such a lot of data I still being gather. This article speaks to the outcome of about 820 drug court participants, and the relative effect that opportunity has had on these participants.  The information and data examine different participants level of addiction, success rate, and amount of time spent in each level of the program. The program ultimately found out that participants are 11 times less likely to reoffend then those who have completed the program.
Katsiyannis, A., Whitford, D., Zhang, D., & Gage, N. (2018). Adult Recidivism in United States: A Meta-Analysis 1994–2015. Journal of Child and Family Studies, 27(3), 686–696. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10826-017-0945-8
This study examines adult recidivism between 1994 and 2015. The idea during this study is to identify and examine what personal characteristics and attributes could identify a person to be a continual criminal or reoffended after an initial incident. The study looks at nonviolent and violent criminal offenders and used a type of coding to identify risk levels of reoffending.
