Judean Thompson Week 4: Discussion
Computers can improve the quality of care provided in health facilities due to their far-reaching capabilities. Regarding management, the technology is used to decrease charges because it offers cost-effective methods of testing and treatment to the patient (Jones, Rudin, Perry, & Shekelle, 2014). Through the system, each of the workstations can be linked to a medical record system that is comprehensive. Computers also reduce costs because of the paperless system adopted. There is also uniformity in output; the management can monitor all the effort through a well-organized framework. Through the computers, the administration can communicate with the staff conveniently.
Concerning records, the patient information is organized in a manner that is easily accessible by all members of the staff (Jones et al., 2014). With software programs such as databases, healthcare organizations can manage patient and other related data efficiently. It is also possible to share the information from one health facility to the next in case of patient transfer. From the health records, it is also possible to monitor the condition of the patients. The files are kept safe, and only authorized employees possess the authority to access or transfer the information.
Computer use also has some disadvantages in medical facilities. Firstly, a disruption of the functioning of the machines might affect operations in the hospital. For instance, the hospital staff might miss their scheduled duties. Consequently, the facility may be rendered incapable of facilitating the provision of quality care to patients. Secondly, over-reliance on communications through computers has a negative impact on teamwork. Regarding records, digital records face the risk of hacking and invasion of the patients’ privacy. If access to the database is not regulated, the information might be leaked.

Advantages and Disadvantages for Electronic Health Records
EHR has improved the quality of care.  Computerized notes are much easier to read than a doctor’s handwriting. This way, there is less risk of mistakes or misinterpretations that can affect the quality of patient’s care. Another great advantage is the amount of space offices now save by using EHR.  EHR eliminate the need of physical documents stored in file cabinets and frees up more space to store medical supplies or other essentials. On the other hand, EHR can give inaccurate information. These records must be updated after a certain amount of time of whenever there is a change of information. Some patients don’t update their information so it makes it hard for offices to contact them if needed.
Advantages and Disadvantages for Practice Management System
Practice management systems maintains peak performance and minimizes errors. It also helps staff operate smoothly and reduce patient wait times. Practice management systems can Improve organization and allows staff to focus more on the care of patients. A disadvantage when using this system  if that if you have poor internet connection then the experience of using online software will be more complicated and less enjoyable. WC198
