As soon as you have secured a position in a school district and know the grade level and subject you will be teaching, complete the following activities. This activity will require you to research the demographics of your students. It is highly recommended that you write your responses in a word processor and copy/paste the text into the spaces below rather than compose the responses online.

Respond to the following questions, identifying the student groups you may have in your classroom. Not all teachers will have all groups. However, to better know your students and plan for their success, it is important that you understand their needs. Some students may have multiple needs. They may be at risk, living in poverty, and/or receiving special education services. Be thoughtful as you plan for interventions that will provide support for these students.

The student groups are:

Answer all five questions in the space below:

1. Will you have students classified as this in your classroom? How many?

2. What do you know about these students, and what are the potential barriers to learning with this group?

3. How will you modify instruction to meet the needs of these specific students?

4. What parts of your lesson (introduction, direct instruction, guided practice, independent practice, or reinforcement) will need to be modified to meet the specific needs of these students? Describe why this is true.

5. How will you document these accommodations in your lesson?
