For your weekend work, you’ll work on building your final paper. A part of this assignment builds on the work we did in class on Friday to draft a Section 1 introduction paragraph with 1) an opening sentence, 2) information from at least two sources, and 3) strong MLA signal phrases and in-text citations at the end of the source information. If you weren’t in class on Friday, please let me know if you have questions about this assignment.
Write a rough draft of Sections 1, 2 and 3 of your paper. Examine the assignment directions so that you are clear about the expectations for each section. Keep in mind that you may use parts of your second paper in Sections 2 and 3 of your final paper, if you choose.
Section 1 will include an interesting opening sentence about the college dropout crisis. This sentence should be clear and powerful. The sentence from the New York Times article “The College Dropout Crisis” is a good example of a direct, compelling opening statement: “American higher education has a dropout problem.”

After that opening sentence, you will provide background information from sources to help readers understand how serious this problem is. You may use the sources I provided or others that you find useful. The assignment requires info from at least two sources in this paragraph.
You will provide MLA signal phrases to introduce the information and info in parentheses at the end of the source information. 
Sections 2 and 3 may include source information, but it is not required. 
To earn full credit for this assignment, you will write at least three well-explained paragraphs: shoot for 7 or more sentences in each sentence to encourage you to explain your ideas carefully for a reader. Please write with confidence!
