Ever stop to think about what might be best for your kids? Or what’s best for you? Many people haven’t thought of all the great things enforced uniforms have to offer, until they read about it at least.
It’s been an ongoing battle between school faculty and students for years now and so far not a lot of progress has been made. The school board maintains the control because they run the school but the students have done a lot of petitioning to change that. They have actually done enough petitioning to change a couple of rules.I think uniforms should be enforced through grade school but not throughout high school. I think high school students have enough responsibility to handle not wearing a school uniform. School uniforms have been around just as long as schools themselves, and they play a much bigger role in education than most people think. Uniforms have been proven to promote learning and help kids stay focused in school.
Many people believe putting on a uniform resembles a parent putting on a suit, and getting ready for work. This makes the students take a more serious interest in the work they are doing at school. Also, it has been proven that wearing uniforms provides less of a distraction than fashionable clothes create. With uniforms, there is absolutely no controversy over who has the newest, coolest clothes in school. Another big factor that school uniforms have done is promoting the school and raising school spirits. Most school uniforms are based on the schools colors which promotes the school itself. It makes the uniforms and the colors recognizable.
The uniform provides very easy spirit colors and they are also very affordable. It has always been much easier for parents to buy school uniforms than it has for them to go out and buy new trendy clothes. Uniforms are sold at the school most of the time and they maintain a pretty consistent price throughout the year. This makes it easier on the parents who might be having money problems during certain parts of the year. The students who rebel against school uniforms claim they are being obbed of their creativity. They say that since they can’t choose their own clothing they don’t have the chance to show individuality. I believe this to be very wrong and the schools think so too.
Almost every day the students are given chances to be creative through writing, art, drama, and music classes. At least some of these classes are offered at each school that allows a better form of creativity. And many schools are starting to offer extracurricular activities that encourage kids to be creative.I believe as students get older and reach the high school level they become much more responsible and mature. By removing uniforms during high school an opportunity arises for the students to learn a new skill. Many students learn how to juggle several things in their life and also how to adapt to new situations because of no uniforms. My guess is the battle for uniforms will go on for many more years until the students finally realize what is best and easiest.
