My topic of choice for my thesis have to do with providing health insurance for everyone, health insurance is a major issue in the low income neighborhood. The Affordable Care Act  recently has provided Americans with a more secure health plan by implementing a comprehensive reform for health insurance. This reform will guarantee more choices, expand coverage, lower health cost, hold insurance companies accountable, and enhance the life quality of many Americans. The Affordable Care Act actually refers to two separate pieces of legislation — the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152) — that, together expand Medicaid coverage to millions of low-income Americans and makes numerous improvements to both Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Research questions:

1. Who will benefit from this reform? According affordable care act this change will cover the poorest Americans (low income adults and children).

2. What are the benchmark coverage’s? People newly eligible for Medicaid will receive a benchmark benefit or benchmark­ equivalent package that includes the minimum essential benefits provided in the Affordable Insurance Exchanges.

3. How will this new act be funded? And for how long? Beginning in 2014 coverage for the newly eligible adults will be fully funded by the federal government for three years.  It will phase down to 90% by 2020.

4. How will this program prevent and promote wellness? The reform will promotes prevention, wellness and public health and supports health promotion efforts at the local, state and federal levels.

The working thesis statement, ” Affordable health insurance coverage is a necessary entity that can prevent the health issues of the poorest adults and children in low income neighborhoods, if implemented properly”. People in the poorest neighborhoods are use to the idea of not having health insurance, but if the community show a interest and educate them, there will be less sickness and death.
