DISCUSSION BOARD DUE THURSDAY 250-300 WORDS READ DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY
 
Researchers use many different methods to find the answers to their research questions. Methods include conducting an experiment, administering a survey, evaluating a program, or investigating historical data. Each method has its advantages and challenges.
For this Discussion, you will consider the many ways in which you could answer your research question. If you are considering an experimental method, consider the types of experiments. You may want to consider administering a survey, but you need to also consider the type of survey. One key element to valid research is the selection of the research design.

Consider your research topic and the results of your literature review

Post a comprehensive response to the following:

What type of research design would you use for your proposed study (experimental, survey, evaluation, or historical)? (See Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 of your textbook.)
Why is the design you selected the most suitable to support your research question or hypothesis? (See Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 of your textbook.)
Does the research design account for any bias? (See Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 of your textbook.)

Chapter 5, “Conducting Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Research”
Chapter 5 defines the characteristics of experimentation, including independent and dependent variables, as well as validity. Various methods of quasi-experimental design are also explicated.
Chapter 6, “Conducting Survey and Self-Report Research”
Surveys and self-reports can provide valid and significant research if a thorough flow plan is part of the survey design. Chapter 6 provides a variety of survey collection methods and interviewing techniques.
Chapter 7, “Conducting Qualitative Research”
Chapter 7 compares and contrasts quantitative and qualitative research. This chapter addresses how various observation methods can be used to provide descriptions of behavior and record situational behavior. This chapter will also address how ethnomethodology is used in everyday, routine social activities.
Chapter 8, “Conducting Evaluation Research and Mixed Designs”
Evaluation research is used to determine if a program’s goals and objectives have been achieved. Chapter 8 presents the steps in conducting evaluation, and the authors also explore the advantages and challenges of various evaluation models.

This presentation will present effective steps for conducting experimental and quasi-experimental research. In this presentation, you will look at data collection through surveys and self-reports. You will also consider the advantages and challenges of qualitative research and evaluation research.
