 Homework: History of Computing Accepted via Blackboard until 11:59pm the evening before your section’s next lecture. • May be turned in early. • After due date, the assignment will be closed, and no submissions will be accepted. • Any assignment not uploaded to Blackboard will receive a 0. Objective: Choose a computing pioneer that was not covered in today’s lecture. Two good sources to locate computing pioneers can be found at the following: • The History of Computing Project o https://www.thocp.net/biographies/biographies.htm • Computer Hope o http://www.computerhope.com/people/ You may use other sources, but be sure to cite where you first located the individual. Write an essay describing this individual’s background, his/her contributions to computing, and what this individual did later in life (assuming they lived into old age), or what he/she is doing now (if they’re still alive). Include a section discussing why you feel this person’s contribution to the field is important. Cite three different sources for your paper. This may not include Wikipedia, although you may use Wikipedia to begin your search for credible sources. You may use whatever citation format you choose, but I recommend EasyBib, or a similar service, to simplify this process. The paper’s format should be: • One inch margins • Eleven point font • Time’s New Roman • Justified alignment • Single spacing Aim for 600 words. Anything significantly less than 600 words will be considered a lack of effort, and result in a 25 point deduction. Remember: this assignment will be assessed by plagiarism-checking software. Blatant copy-pasting, colluding with other students, or using past work from other classes will all be flagged as plagiarism, and you will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct accordingly. Turn In: Turn this into a PDF document, and upload it into Blackboard in the form of history.netid.pdf. Include a proper essay header with your name, student ID number, date, and the section of 1105 you’re enrolled in. Failure to follow the above instructions will net a deduction of 25 points.
