In this first module you learned about leading instructional design models and approaches. For this assignment, you will investigate how school systems actually use them. Identify different schools and school systems near you, and research the way they employ instructional design. You may find documentation through school, district, local, or county websites and school boards, and you may need to try to contact school administrators or teachers directly to find out more about their methods. 

•Identify and research at least three different schools or school systems 

•Describe the instructional design models and approaches used by each 

•Compare and contrast those with each other and with your lectures

Assignment 2: Conducting Learner Analysis and Needs Assessment  Instructional designers and educators realize it is important to strive to know your audience and to ascertain their needs. In this assignment, you will conduct learner analysis and needs assessments. Consider the learners you will design a unit of instruction for in LASA 2 in Module 7. Brown and Green provide different approaches to learner or client analysis to ensure that the instructional design is appropriate for the intended audience. Research Mager’s approach to learner analysis and needs assessment, and your target audience, then address the following in your submission: 

•Describe your target audience, grade level and subject of study, and their needs 

•Include charts or graphics to clearly outline your analysis and assessments •Identify the key considerations for how to approach meeting the needs of your learners when designing a lesson 

•Justify your responses with evidence from your research  Be sure that you answer the following questions to the best of your ability based on your research and experience with the learners:

 •Who is the intended audience for the instruction? 

•What common traits do members of the learning group possess?

•What are the differences among learners within the group? 

•What is the range of ability among the learners? 

•What is the motivation for participating in the learning event? 

•Do the learners have non-instructional needs (rest, food, safety) that must be met so that they may focus on the instructional activity? 

•What will make the instruction effective, efficient, and appealing for the target audience of learners? 

•How has the instructional designer or design team planned for the accommodation of culturally and physically diverse learners?

 •What evaluation strategies will the instructional designer or design team use to determine the success of the learner analysis and how to refine future analyses for the instructional event?
