An active volcano is a volcano that has had at least one eruption during the past tens of thousands of years and most probably will erupt again. A dormant volcano is a volcano that has not erupted in a while and is quiet, but is estimated to erupt again. Extinct volcanoes are volcanoes that hasn’t erupted for a long time and aren’t expected to erupt again.

Tornadic waterspouts

Tornadic waterspouts are tornadoes that form over water, or move from land to water. They have the same characteristics as a land tornado. They are associated with severe thunderstorms, and are often accompanied by high winds, large hail, and frequent dangerous lightning.

Fair weather waterspouts

Fair weather waterspouts usually form along the flat base line of developing cumulus clouds. This type of waterspout is generally not associated with thunderstorms. While tornadic waterspouts develop downward in a thunderstorm, a fair weather waterspout develops on the surface of the water and works its way upward.
