Unit II Case Study
This assignment provides you with an opportunity to participate within the continuous-improvement system for emergency-management professionals. Emergency managers view After-Action Reports (AARs) about specific incidents so that they can identify ways to improve preparation, response, and recovery practices. Click here to access and view an example of an AAR. Consider skimming through or reading additional AARs from past incidents to become familiar with the typical details within such reports. Then, select one real-life event (one different from the example provided above), locate the AAR on the Internet, study the AAR, and summarize the key lessons learned in a two-page paper. Make sure to focus on the command and operations aspects that were correctly or incorrectly handled for the incident as you address each of the following questions:
 Was incident command established quickly on-scene?
 Was unified command utilized?
 Were appropriate agencies and resources deployed to the scene?
 What lessons learned from the event can be applied to other incidents?
Although not required, feel free to use the Homeland Security Digital Library to locate an AAR: www.hsdl.org
The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify lessons learned from a past incident and to consider how emergency- management efforts can improve for future incidents. In other words, we want to avoid the mistakes of the past and proactively improve our approaches for the future.
Your case study should be at least two pages long and submitted in APA format.
