Q1: What is the problem of evil, and how compelling is it as an argument for God’s non-existence?

The problem of evil is as follows— there is evil. God is by definition all-powerful and all-good, therefore he should not allow evil to exist. But since evil does exist, there is no God. I do not think this is the most compelling argument against the non-existence of God. There are many counterarguments to this problem. The first counterargument is that it may be important for God to give humans free will, however, that free will may inevitably lead to evil deeds being committed by some humans. Additionally, evil may exist to give meaning to the good, even in the presence of God. Without evil, there may not be good. For example, great acts of charity are dependent on the presence of evil.

Q2: What is the difference between believing that God exists and having faith in God?

There is a key difference between one believing God exists and having faith in God. The belief in God regards to the credible proofs that establish its existence on reason alone. A belief in God relies only on reasoning alone and does not pertain to the spiritual sector. Someone’s belief can easily be argued and make them challenge their belief Having faith in God, however, is more than belief. If one were to present a credible counter evidence to someone with real faith, they will keep their commitment despite this new evidence. Their faith is not an act that can easily be stripped away from them. They have positive reasons for their faith. Faith has little to do with evidence and more with belief at spiritual level.
