Preparing for an Extemporaneous Oral Presentation and Using Visuals in Oral Presentations. This discussion topic has two parts.  One issue with oral presentation is the whole performance thing: It’s hard not to get nervous. One sure antidote is to be well-prepared. Discuss three things to do to ensure that you will be well-prepared for an effective extemporaneous oral presentation. (See TC, at the very beginning of the chapter on oral presentations, for a description of an extemporaneous oral presentation.)  Beyond using different strategies to decrease your stage fright, another kind of preparation that needs to be done is preparation of appropriate and accessible graphics. Let’s say you were giving last week’s Project 5 Progress report orally to a group that will ultimately have a say in the decision to follow your recommendations. Under those circumstances, what kind of graphic might you have used to help your audience take in and remember your presentation better? Why? Consider this presentation to be a bit of a sales job, selling your audience on the usefulness and good sense of your feasibility study and what you end up recommending based on that feasibility study. To help you think of what visuals would be most helpful, try to think of a particular audience you would be trying to convince.
