For this assignment, prepare a PowerPoint Slides presentation to orient school personnel or provide a review for them about the role of aptitude tests in the big picture of assessment procedures for students with disabilities. Use pseudonyms for students, school personnel, schools, and school systems. Modify the presentation to meet the unique needs of your local school system. If you are not currently employed in a setting where you could deliver the presentation for school-based faculty/staff professional development, prepare a presentation targeting your choice of K-12 level. Include the following information:

Initial Cover Slide and Section One:

• Target audience (elementary, middle, high school, or K-12)
• Personnel Attending (for example: all teachers and teachers’ aides)
• Length of Presentation (for example: 50-minute after-school session)

You will first need to address the 13 categories under which a student with a disability can qualify for services under the law. Explain that you must first rule in or out some possible disabilities. Medical and health history reports help the team with this process. It must then be determined whether the student has any intellectual challenges.

Section Two:
The aptitude test plays an important part in this process by providing an unbiased examination of the student. Although no one test should be relied upon, the aptitude test can help with the identification of basic challenges faced by the student. If the aptitude test is not utilized, identify what will be used.

Section Three:
Formal assessments administered to students with IEPs should be monitored by special educators. The selection of informal assessments utilized on a daily basis in the classroom should be done collaboratively by special education administrators, special educators, and classroom teachers if inclusion settings are involved.

Section Four:
Students with disabilities often need accommodations and modifications. If these are added to the IEP, they must be addressed. Again, special educators should be involved in the assessment process.

Section Five:
Reflection on current research and trends in the field of assessment for students with special educational needs and potential implications for future practice.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide). Include 3-5 sources.
Notes Length: 200-350 words for each slide

Your notes can fill the role of the speaker, giving your audience the background and details that a speaker would provide during a live presentation.

Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
