Note: The Proposal Draft assignment is the second of three proposal-related assignments, including the Proposal Subject and Research Questions (Due 7/31) and a Final Proposal (Due 8/14).
Purpose: A proposal is an offer to carry out research or to provide a product or service.
The proposal may be written as an Internal Proposal (an offer writers submit within their own organization) or as an External Proposal (an offer writers submit in response to requests made by the government/other organizations in competition with other offers). The Draft of your proposal should be basically complete, but may need additional development including: researched support, a better APA style references page, and proofreading.
Proposal Drafts should include the following parts:
• a statement of purpose
• a summary section
• an introduction
• a proposed tasks section that includes numbered steps
• a timeline for completion
• a budget
• an experience section—explanation of the author’s credentials,• an APA style Reference section.
Tasks:
1) Develop your proposal topic based on your Proposal Subject and Research Questions
assignment by answering your research questions. If you discover a different topic as you are
researching, you can change your proposal topic.
2) Draft each of the required sections for the proposal including:
a statement of purpose
a summary section
an introduction
a proposed tasks section that includes numbered steps
a timeline/a Gantt Chart (see example pg. 307 in Practical Strategies for Tech Comm) a budget that is expressed in the form of a table or chart
an explanation of the author’s credentials,
an APA style Reference section.
Drafts should at least 2-3 pages long (approximately 1200 words)
3) Bring three paper copies of your draft to class on August 10 for peer review. (See Criteria on the next pages)
