Online Education has been on the rising since for a long time. Just since the early 2000s, the number of students enrolled in online education has skyrocketed.  Throughout the stages of America Education, there was a need to increase the accessibility of a college education. According to the academic journal, What do learners value in online education? An
emerging market perspective, scholars Toufaily, Zalan, Lee stated that “students values when deciding to enroll in online courses are convenience and flexibility” ( Toufaily et al, 2018). Many people in present society have various circumstances that such as change of jobs, marriage, the birth of new children, geographic/physical distance to the university, and work commitments. College tuition still slightly increased. So the innovation and expansion of online education became much competitive. Online Education offered a more feasible economical investment and incorporate a more flexible curriculum approach that was different than the traditional curriculum. Global education allows students to study in a self-paced mode as compared to traditional classroom learning which helps contribution a relief on the changes and innovations in colleges and universities across the nation (Thelin, 2011).

Slowly over the years, more and more areas of study have become available. Online education is one of the “fastest growing phenomena in higher education and has a high number of availability of new technologies and academic areas of study” (Broussard 2013). Many Universities has developed more online programs to create a more personalization learning curriculum for young students and elder students. Online courses and programs are allowing students full control over their own learning and are able to work at their own speed. However, Online coursework is at the same time very demanded. The workload is almost doubled due to the last amount of time you spend in the class. College administers are founding out that online course within certain program provides a more engaging learning experience rather than a traditional experience.

Let me be the first to say I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving! Also, I had the hardest time trying to navigate ProQuest for some reason, but I think I finally got it!

The idea of online education was not one that was always accepted by people. Many thought that it was a scam or you weren’t receiving a viable degree. However, with the increase of technology being used in education and students wanting to be able to learn without being tied down to a physical classroom; online education has really emerged as an efficient and effective way of learning that works with the lives of the students in these programs. In the academic journal ‘Shift Happens: Online Education as a New Paradigm in Learning’ by Linda Harasim, this is something that is directly addressed almost immediately. Harasim believes in the emergence of online education and labels it as a “paradigmatic shift” from the traditional learning environment. The idea of “technologies for collaborative learning in post-secondary education” was pioneered through developing frameworks that could adequately host the material for students. One such method is Virtual-U that is able to provide 24/7 availability and unprecedented access. Virtual-U also invests in post-secondary education trials with a large pool for availability: 439 courses, 250 faculty, and 15,000 students. (Harasim, 2000) I align with this piece because it does address how people have to constantly stay on top of their research and keep online environments conducive to the learning process and relevant to the needs of faculty and students.

In the second article, Jacqueline Moloney looks into how online education provides expedited access to higher education for people that might not other have access to post-secondary education. Part of what creates these platforms ease of access is utilization of the design of theoretical concepts and “practical strategies.” These are all connected to the Asynchronous Learning Networks. These networks have allowed an initial “two million learners” with projected availability rising 20% in the next five years. In accordance with the Sloan Consortium, the Asynchronous Learning Networks have improved the quality, accessibility, and availability of online courses to students around the world and continues to meet increasing demands. I agree with much of this article because to have any success in higher education online, it must be available and user-friendly. The proper framework allows this process to excel and in some cases, be expedited.
