Research – based Strategies
After reading through chapter 6, in realizing that classroom instruction and strategies has changed in the 21st century. I feel that both has something to offer in today’s classroom. The reaction is that as it states in our text “curriculum and instruction for the 21st century”, that the teacher understand and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of the content area. Since we as teachers realize that there will be diverse learners and our class and we must adapt to a way of learning that will be beneficial to students and the class, what works for one may not necessary work for the other, both researches can support different diversity of student in the class to help students learn in a way that is proficient to them.
Choose a Researcher:
When reviewing, and reading both researches strategies to learning. I found that both held a quality to learning that would be beneficial to all students in my class. I think that Marazano’s seemed to catch my attention the most. There seemed to be more ways to make the students responsible for what they learn while in class.
Enhance Instruction:
Some of the practices I think I would use in my Social Studies classroom.
Ø Practicing Cooperative Learning- Organizing students into cooperative groups to talk and work write with one another is highly conductive learning.
Ø Doing Homework and practicing- Teachers should explain the purpose of homework to both the parents or guarding and teachers should try to give feedback on all homework assigned.
Ø Using non-linguistic representation-linguistics and visual with the visual accounting for the majority of learning for humans. Therefore, teachers need to activate these powerful visual learning channels with students and have students represent that which they are learning with graphics, organizers, pictures, charts, drawing, etc.
Ø Generating and testing hypotheses- Having students set their own goals and objectives for learning provides for ownership of the experience. For student’s feedback, research shows that the more specific the feedback, the more it has positive learning outcomes with students.
I hope to be the teacher that everyone enjoys coming to my classroom, where learning is taken place in a fun environment where learning is happening. And by implementing these practices will help the student learn and grow and develop their learning.

As a student in this class as well as an educator already teaching I felt I could relate and use the material that was from the Bizar and Daniels 7 best practices more than the Marazano’s 9 best practices. I hate to say that I feel the Bizar and Daniels is more relevant than the Marazano because I think it would depend on the teacher and his or her own teaching style. As I said though I did find the Bizar and Daniels to be quite relevant to what I can do and some of what I am already doing in my classroom. I particularly enjoyed reading the more effective and less effective table and learning what the text says about these practices. The reason why I feel that Bizar and Daniels is more relevant is because the practices mentioned seemed great ways to teach in the classroom and great ways to keep kids in tuned with a variety of teaching methods. The Marazano that I thought would be the best practice, especially for kindergarteners, would be the practice of using nonlinguistic representations. I like the idea of using drawings and physical models for ways that the students can advance their knowledge of whatever material is being taught. Based on my style of teaching this practice would mesh with a lot that I already do. I like the nonlinguistic representation and could see myself incorporating this in my classroom.
