The questions to answer are:

1. Identify one of your secondary groups and describe three instrumental functions the group serves.

2. Identify one of your reference groups and discuss how you use the group as a point of reference.  (Note: do not use family or friends as an example.)

3. Using information in the video “High Incarceration Rate in the U.S.” identify how the incarceration rate in the U.S. differs from other nations, and explain three reasons as to why.

4. Using information from the article “Five Facts About Crime in the U.S.,” discuss what has happened to crime rates over the past 25 years, and whether the public perception of those rates is accurate.

5. Using information from the slideshow “The Growing Gap of Inequality,” summarize three reasons as to why the gap between the rich and the rest of the U.S. population has increased in recent decades.

6. The United States is wealthier than many other nations in the world.  Summarize how modernization and dependency theory would explain this situation.

Each question is worth 15 points and requires an answer of at least 150 words (a long paragraph).

Your answers should total at least 900 words in length.  This means 900 words total for all of the questions, not each one.
