Using what you have learned so far in this course, compose a paper responding to the questions/issues listed below. All three issues should be included in one document. Please include an introductory section, and include headings to differentiate between the issues.

In what criminal cases should appeals be permitted, and at what stages should the appeals take place? Consider the fact that the Roman Empire did not allow appeals until the empire became organized. The same situation was repeated in England; in the 12th century, there was no appeal from decisions of the King’s Court, but the ecclesiastical courts in England derived their procedures from Rome, so appeals were instituted. In your answer, also analyze, argue, and conclude whether or not appeals will continue to include more subject matters (crimes) and lesser crimes.
One state is considering the following three new laws: 1) Taxpayers will pay for bulletproof vests; 2) targeting police officers will be treated as a hate crime; and 3) teenage students and police must attend mandatory classes on how to interact with each other. Analyze, argue, and provide the pros and cons of the proposed legislation above and its effect on the criminal justice system. What would the impact be?
Expert witnesses are retained to provide testimony that cannot be reliably provided by lay witnesses because the subject matter is not within a reasonable person’s knowledge. Should experts be held civilly liable for mistakes made when testifying as an expert that could cause their client to lose the case?
