Your team has continued to work on an object model for the new inventory management system. At this point, you are reviewing the business processes involved in receiving incoming shipments, and order fulfillment. The following table is a summary of your fact-finding results: Business Process Description Incoming shipment  A freight carrier delivers a shipment from a supplier.  A warehouse technician scans the bar code to record the shipment, and the data is automatically transmitted to the accounting system.  If the shipment includes an RFID tag, the data automatically enters the system – otherwise the technician adds a RFID tag that serves as a locator.  An on-board fork lift computer senses the data and selected the proper storage location, and a forklift operator transports the shipment to the proper storage YOUR TURN Object Modeling area. Order fulfillment  An order technician completes a customer order, which is automatically transmitted to the inventory management system if the items are in stock. If not in stock, they are designated for back-order status. The order includes items, quantities, and shipping information. An order can be cancelled at any time before it is transported to the shipping area.  The inventory management system generates a shipping list, which is transmitted to an on-board fork-lift computer.  A forklift operator goes to the designated location, retrieves the items, and delivers them to the shipping area, where a warehouse technician applies computer-generated labels.  A freight carrier picks up the shipment and initiates tracking information that continues until the shipment is delivered to the customer. Summary: A shipment can be in various states, depending on events. For example, it can be in stock, out-of-stock, ordered, back-ordered, cancelled, in final shipping, shipped, in transit, or received by the customer.
