Overview and Discussion Post

The purpose of this first unit  — which will be covered over the next week — is to learn about the United States Constitution and American Federalism. This week we will focus on the meaning of democracy and more about how the founding fathers keep the republic embodied within the U.S. Constitution.

Chapter 1 Objectives and then discuss….

By end of this chapter you will be able to:

1. Explain what democracy is, and use this to evaluate American politics
2. Outline and explain the differences between direct and indirect democracy.
3. Please post what differences you discover in your online searches there are between democracy and a republic. Post once on March 8th and respond to 2 others posts by MARCH 10TH, 2017.

Chapter 2 Objectives

By end of this chapter you will be able to:

1. Appreciate the distinction between democracy and a republic.
2. Define and compare the Virginia plan, New Jersey plan, and the Great Compromise in terms of how the national government’s role and structure would look like.
