Inquiry-Based Curriculum

The effective implementation of inquiry-based curriculum, such as the Project Approach, in an early childhood program provides results that are hard to beat but not everyone is onboard.  Review the The Philadelphia School Preschool Dog Project and consider what elements of the project made it inquiry-based?  What did you see that indicated the students were learning? What information would you include from the project to persuade family members and administrators that inquiry-based curriculum is effective?  

For this assignment you will need to create a PowerPoint to gain support from family members and administrators for the use of informal inquiry-based curriculum, such as the Project Approach, in your early childhood classroom.  Be creative!  You can include lessons, images, and examples to demonstrate your understanding of the importance of Inquiry-Based Curriculum.  The Philadelphia School Preschool Dog Project is only an example; you may not include this as an example in your PowerPoint.  Please use the recommended resources for project ideas.  

The PowerPoint Presentation must include (a minimum) of eight slides (not including a title and reference slide).  Students are encouraged to creatively address the material including lessons, graphics, visuals, charts, graphs and/or sound.  Slides should be designed to clearly and concisely address the material.  The PowerPoint presentation must be formatted according to APA style; including the title and reference slides and citing within slides when appropriate.  The notes section of the PowerPoint must be utilized to expand on the students’ presented points.  The notes section should also include any additional information necessary to explain or show the students’ point of view.  Students must use at least one professional resource.
