To prepare for this Discussion:

• Review Chapter 13 in the course text, Experiencing the Lifespan.

• Consider the types of memory decline described in the course text and the typical ages at which those declines tend to occur.

•Think about an event or experience in which you discovered that your memory of the event/experience was faulty.

• Identify the type of memory that was faulty.

• Think about why this memory was faulty. Have newer memories interfered with the faulty memory? Were you just unable to retrieve what you thought you knew?

• Apply one of the three theories that explain why memory declines with age. Tell why this theory explains your faulty memory. If you believe memory is not influenced by age, consider the type of memory and the way it functions, and explain the reason for the memory inaccuracy.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of an event or experience in which you discovered that your memory was faulty or inaccurate, what that memory was, and how you discovered the error. Identify the type of memory that was faulty or inaccurate: procedural, semantic, or episodic. Choose one of the theories that explain memory decline and use it to explain your specific example. If you do not believe that any of the theories explain your faulty memory, consider the type of memory and explain why it was likely faulty. Finally, explain why you selected that theory, or why you decided none of the theories applied.
